Current Sedation Mentoring Guidelines
To comply with the latest standards for new starters in Conscious sedation in Dentistry, delegates must complete not only the accredited theory training but they must log 20 supervised clinical cases for Intravenous sedation and 10 supervised clinical cases for inhalation sedation before they can operate independently. This is to ensure safe, confident and competent practice from the start. If you are new to sedation in the UK you must ensure you complete an accredited course and you cannot be supervised by anyone that hasn't been approved by the course provider or STAC. For this reason, to compliment our online didactic conscious sedation courses we have set up the DSC sedation mentoring scheme to make your training as simple as possible. We have kept it simple with 2 options for completing your supervised sedation cases:

OPTION 1: Sedation Mentor Centres
TURN UP, COMPLETE YOUR CASES, GO HOME AND RELAX
We are fortunate to be able to offer the opportunity to complete all of your supervised cases at one of our partnered sedation mentor centres. These are based across the UK including: Luton, Burton on Trent, Coventry, Nottingham and Kent. The dates are arranged with yourself to fit around your schedule. Note that not all locations have the same availability and not all locations offer mentoring for all types of sedation. Supervising and Mentoring is one to one and we recommend you bring your dental nurse to have their cases signed off at the same time as yourself. This is often by far the easiest, quickest and most cost effective way to complete your mentored cases and there is a set fee for this (not a daily rate and so this won't be affected if there are any no shows etc on the days you are there). Option 2: YOU PROVIDE THE MENTOR
We know there are many great clinicians out there with fountains of knowledge to share as we have met many of you!
If you would prefer to utilise a suitably experienced practitioner of your choosing then this is perfectly fine too. They must have completed an accredited training course themselves such as our course for New Starters and be experienced in conscious sedation (minimum 2 years)
You can arrange your own times and dates with the mentor and we will be on hand to advise and assess throughout. Any financial arrangements are between you and your mentor. We MUST approve your mentor as suitable prior to commencing the practical cases but there is no additional fee for this. This may be viable if you are in a busy sedation clinic full of experienced practitioners.
Option 3: OUR MENTORS COME TO YOU
Do you want our experienced mentors come to your clinic and supervise your cases
This is a particularly efficient and COST EFFECTIVE option for dentists and therapists completing INHALATION SEDATION as it allows you to familiarise yourself with the exact set up that you will continue to use for your patients after the mentor leaves and the fees are comparable to attending the mentoring clinic. This is also an option for Intravenous sedation however it will not be as cost effective as attending the mentoring clinics to complete your intravenous sedation cases (daily rates are est. £1500 per day)
